Missed Calls: A New Way Of Communicating

If you live in India chances are you have used missed calls to communicate with your friends, family and workers. Missed calls have emerged as a new way of communication and staying in touch with others without paying for the call.

Missed calls or beeping are not unique to Indian mobile users as I discovered from Jonathan Donner of Microsoft Research India. Jonathan says missed calls are used by mobile users in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Indonesia and other countries.

In Part-2 of our interview Jonathan talks about missed calls and the missed revenues for telcos operators. Is there a viable way to translate those millions of missed calls into revenue stream? Tune in to find out what Jonathan has to say.

Jonathan has conducted extensive research about missed calls and was recently featured in the Economist’s special report on technology in India and China published in November 2007.
